Chocolate Sauce

Recipe: Minnie's Chocolate Sauce

This versatile dessert sauce can be poured over ice cream or used as a
dipping sauce for your favorite fruit.

Makes about 1 1/2 cups

  • 1 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips

In a double boiler, gently heat cream and butter until the butter melts. Then add chocolate chips and stir until chocolate completely melts and sauce is thick and glossy. Add extra cream if you want a thinner sauce.

If you don't have a double boiler, fill a small to medium sized saucepan with an inch of water and heat the water over a medium heat until it boils, reduce the heat so the water simmers. Now place a large heatproof glass bowl (larger that the saucepan) over the top of the saucepan, making sure that the water doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl. Place ingredients in the glass bowl and stir until ingredients melt and are smooth. The goal is to gently melt the chocolate without scorching it.

Variations:

  • Add the grated zest of one orange and a tablespoon of Grand Marnier.
  • Add a tablespoon of your favorite liqueur, such as Baileys, Tia Maria, or Amaretto.
